Chavín de Huántar Tour from Huaraz
A 3,000-year journey into the heart of the first great Andean culture.
Overview
The Chavín de Huántar tour from Huaraz takes you to one of Peru's most important archaeological sites, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This is where the Chavín culture flourished, a civilization that between 1200 and 500 BC influenced much of the Andes long before the Incas. Walking through its plazas, temples and galleries is the best way to understand the origins of Andean thought.
Leaving Huaraz, we cross the Cordillera Blanca through the Kahuish tunnel at around 4,500 metres, descending into the Conchucos valley. It is an easy, full-day cultural excursion suitable for all ages, where we walk through stone passageways to come face to face with the enigmatic Lanzón monolith, the soul of the entire complex.
